About

We are a not-for-profit organisation with a mission to ensure science is used accurately and honestly in the development of policy making, court processes and law making.

Purpose

The Public Interest Law and Science Initiative inc (“PILSI”) is a not-for-profit organisation with a mission to ensure science is used accurately and honestly in the development of policy making, court processes and law making.

We have witnessed the misuse of statistics in town planning, transport policy and the use of false narratives supposedly underpinned by science to win support for what would be otherwise, controversial policies.

Our mission is to be an honest broker and simply let science, and evidence, speak to power.

Executive

Our Committee is made up of Sean Rush former Wellington City Councillor and IPCC expert reviewer (LLB, LLM, MCCSP), Salima Padamsey (social anthropologist and founding member and Chair of the Coastal Ratepayers United) and Lauchie Duff (BSc, Msc Marine Geochemistry).

Members

Our members are drawn from diverse groups that have been affected by poor decisions of local and central government.  We are made up from the legal and scientific community, including planners, economists, sea level experts, statisticians and other academics, as well as members of communities and community groups advocating for the honest and robust application of science in law and policy making.
